This partnership is XRCI’s first commercial engagement with a startup. XRCI, which was inaugurated in 2010, explores, develops and incubates solutions and services for Xerox’s global customers, with a special focus on emerging markets.
As part of the agreement, Impartus will license and integrate Xerox’s technology into its video-learning solution.
"We look at video lectures as the next generation of text books and unlike textbooks, we find these lectures harder to navigate, so we have been developing technologies where we automatically analyse these videos to create table of content, automatically start indexing them based on keywords that are in the videos and make it easier for learners to find the right content," said Manish Gupta, director of Xerox Research Centre India.
The technology will also help in personalisation of content. For example, If a student, after reaching the tenth minute in a video, repeatedly goes back to the fifth minute to view the material again, the solution will infer that the student might need help understanding the concepts presented between the fifth and tenth minute, and offer up suggestions for additional content.
