Xerox Heats Up the Healthcare Industry in the Sunshine State

Showcasing technology at HIMSS that enables seamless care coordination and increases patient satisfaction

By Cees Van Doorn, Senior Vice President, Healthcare Industry, Xerox

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Conference and Exhibition – dubbed HIMSS – is almost upon us, bringing together the best and brightest in the healthcare industry. With more than 40,000 health IT professionals, clinicians, executives and vendors from around the world attending, we’re excited to showcase new technology to break down barriers and silos – strengthening connections between providers and payers, and helping our clients offer seamless care to increase patient satisfaction and outcomes.

According to a report by Experian, personal healthcare information is more valuable to hackers than credit card information, and healthcare data breach numbers are climbing year over year. Patients expect that their personal and confidential healthcare information is secure. Beyond healthcare security, a Xerox survey also found that patients are frustrated by long wait times for test results and care coordination between providers, and we want to help!

Nearly half of Americans are worried their personal healthcare info will be stolen. Xerox Survey: Is Your Personal Healthcare Information Safe?

The recent 2017 Xerox eHealth Survey found nearly half of Americans (44 percent) are worried that their personal healthcare information will be stolen. The Xerox survey, conducted online by Harris Poll in January 2017 among more than 3,000 U.S. adults ages 18 and older, also showed nearly 9 out of 10 (87 percent) of patients believe that information sharing between providers can improve care coordination and reduce wait times for test results and diagnoses.

Patients are frustrated by the lack of care coordination and disjointed processes. Our survey findings prove it – 19 percent of Americans would rather wait in line at the DMV than coordinate between different doctors’ offices. But what can we do to curb annoyances and frustrations of unhappy patients and help improve their care and experience?

Empowering Better Healthcare with Technology at HIMSS

  • On display at HIMSS, the Xerox Healthcare Multifunction Printer (MFP), connected by Kno2, a clinical document exchange cloud service, allows providers to digitize, share and search patient information from millions of providers across the country in a secure online portal. The device ensures doctors have all patient records to make better and more informed diagnoses. The Healthcare MFP, connected by Kno2 not only enables providers to stay current with electronic medical record regulations, but it also allows caregivers to focus more on patients and less on paperwork. Additionally, the MFP comes equipped with ready-to-use apps that automate and speed up paper dependent processes to help providers be more productive.
  • Another innovation to ensure providers and hospitals have all of a patient’s information is Xerox’s SmoothBand, which will also be featured at HIMSS. This wearable technology makes instantaneous patient identification a reality. Providers can load the wristband into any Xerox printer to print the entire admissions package in one click – expediting the hospital admission process.
  • Xerox Workflow Automation Solution for Medical Staff Credentialing and HR Onboarding collects information such as board certifications, clinical research and education backgrounds, and validates it to ensure physicians, nurses and other clinical providers are properly credentialed for full transparency.

We believe that with our innovative healthcare-specific technology and workflow automation solutions, Xerox has the cure to document chaos, poor information sharing and poor care coordination between providers. We have the right technology and solutions to help connect the silos, digitize record-keeping processes and improve information access for payers and providers. When all of these things work together, patient care, security and interoperability are improved.

If you’re attending HIMSS this year, stop by the Xerox booth #4645 to see our healthcare technology and solutions from February 19-23 in sunny Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center.
